Don’t Waste Time

Ledwell serves the waste industry - recycling industry

The United States has access to an abundance of sanitation facilities, all falling into the Waste Industry. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, our waste management system recorded and collected the clean-up of around 250,000,000 tons of waste in 2015 in various ways including recycling and landfills.

The Waste Industry entails the careful collection, movement, and cleaning of a variety of materials. From your home trash cans, to oceanic pollution, this industry works diligently to remove hazards from the world around you. This includes the use of vacuum trucks, dump trucks, and a whole line of other products that are designed using intricate systems and technology for the perfect solution. In the US, this industry is split into sub industries, including Waste Collection, Waste Treatment and Disposal, Remediation and other services.

Ledwell offers equipment for any level of this type of field work. For waste collection, might we suggest our Trash Dump with a Rotobec accessory. How about a Portable Restroom Truck for Waste Treatment and Disposal? Or our Revolution Vacuum Truck for Environmental Remediation? All of the equipment mentioned have separate functions, but all offer a solution to the industry. Our vacuum systems allow the user to handle dry materials, mixes, sludge or reclaim hydrocarbons. Ledwell Dump Bodies offer easy and efficient evacuation.

Eric Smith

Ledwell Employee Spotlight - October 2019

Eric has been a Ledwell employee, working in the truck shop, for nearly 14 years. Before Eric came to Ledwell, he worked at a highway and transportation company as a maintenance man. That experience helped him leap right into work here at Ledwell and gave him a foundation to plug into.

Over the years, Eric has proven indispensable. He’s one of Ledwell’s go-to guys when we have questions about most any product. Eric has gained broad knowledge about Ledwell equipment, from our vacuum line to our agriculture products. As a matter of fact, he says the two things he’s gained while working at Ledwell are a lot of knowledge and a lot of hair loss! He enjoys all aspects of Ledwell, so given the chance to move somewhere else in the company, he says he’d be happy anywhere.

Eric married his wife, Brandy, thirteen years ago and has a two-year-old daughter named Shiloh. He loves being with his family, and he loves that Ledwell is on the same page in that respect. He has a personal farm that he enjoys working on in his free time, leading him to be a helpful, productive, and easy-going guy.

Raising the Stakes

Remember when you were a child, and you got your very first gingerbread house building kit?

For the most part, they come with four walls and each side of a roof, give or take a few attachments. Putting it together was pretty self-explanatory and as a child, you thought ‘hey, building is easy!’ But as you grew in age and maturity, you found out that not every job is like a cookie-cutter.

You have to restructure, maneuver, rearrange, and create in order to stand out and get the job done right. You learned that you need equipment to be as versatile as your ever-changing application.

For instance, maybe you’re a contractor and you need a truck that can haul wood, gallons of paint, tools, or anything else your client needs. Ledwell has your solution – our Stake Bed Truck.

Ledwell Stake Bed with Lift Gate
Stake bed truck for sale by Ledwell

A classic Stake Bed serves many purposes. It is a flatbed truck that includes sides that are generally either fold-able or removable, enabling its user to arrange materials in the most efficient way. The stake truck works for a variety of industries due to this unique feature.

In the Material Handling industry, benefits include its versatility, the Energy industry can haul anything from electrical supplies to oil barrels, the Construction industry can use the equipment as a means of storage and transport – the list goes on and on.

Each truck comes with a toolbox located towards the front of the bed and a lift gate installed at the rear, making loading a breeze.

When driving, the liftgate serves as a tailgate, but when loading or unloading, the equipment can be lowered and raised to make lifting and securing easier. The controls for this mechanism are located on the side of the bed so that you can quickly access them all while watching the liftgate move.

Crafting Minds

Ledwell offers school tours for local students

The beginning of the school year ignites a drive for sculpting minds and futures. There are infinite possibilities and realities for each and every student across campuses. Not only do college students have to decide where they’re headed, but younger generations are experiencing the same. We tend to start preparing students as early as middle school for their pending occupational success. So, why not give them a first-hand experience at one of their various options?

It’s easier to gauge your opinion of something once you’ve experienced it. That’s why professional tours are so important for young minds. How are they supposed to know what they like and don’t like if never given the opportunity to experience that environment? Showing students what options are available can be encouraging. Show them what the community has to offer.

Ledwell offers tours for students to come and see the value, work, and possibilities present for them to take advantage of. Providing students with options and showing real life career examples is such a valuable lesson. Present them with a chance to see the diverse skills used in manufacturing up close and personal. Touring Ledwell will open their minds to a whole new world of career choices. Give us a call at 888-533-9355 to book your tour today!

Texarkana’s Bountiful Harvest

Ledwell supports Harvest Regional Food Bank

According to Feeding America, “40 million people struggle with hunger in the United States, including more than 12 million children.”

This national non-profit organization leads hundreds of others with the belief that the answer lies within each community. How easy is it to make a difference in the lives of others – to really offer a better tomorrow? Well, in Texarkana it may just be a car ride away or even a button click. Harvest Regional Food Bank, a Feeding Hunger affiliate, is a non-profit organization based in Texarkana, serving 10 counties in Southwest Arkansas and Northeast Texas. To help families in need, the organization holds food drives, events, accepts donations, and more. They utilize over 100 partner agencies to distribute their stock, all of which their nine employees manage to store and sort.

This September, Ledwell Machinery and Ledwell Office is hosting a peanut butter drive that will help ensure that every kid participating in the Backpack Food Program has something to eat over long holiday breaks. According to Camille Wrinkle, Harvest Texarkana’s CEO and Executive Director, “Teachers identify students in their classrooms each year that may not be receiving enough food at home and recommend them for the Backpack Food Program.” Participants of the school’s backpack program will be sent home with a backpack full of nutritional foods every weekend and holiday break to help parents and students. Last year, this program reached more than 900 children across nearly 40 school campuses.

Ledwell supports Harvest Regional Food Bank

To contribute, you can bring small jars of peanut butter to Ledwell Machinery, located on 910 E Loop Dr. If you’d like to help Harvest, you can sign up to volunteer, donate, or drop off a jar of peanut butter! To learn more about the organization, visit their website at www.harvestregionalfoodbank.org or find them on Facebook.

Tinkertown: Discovering Innovation and Creativity

Ledwell supports local museums

How do you grow a world of prosperity and cultivation? You invest time into knowledge and education to those set to one day run the world. Educating the minds of today’s youth is one good way to ensure a bright future full of successful and thriving communities. The Texarkana Museums System comes together annually, with the help of local businesses and civic organizations, to present Tinkertown! This is a one-day event where kids from all over can discover innovation and creativity in their own way. The event hosts several exhibits where children can put their thriving minds to work.

This year, the event had a turnout of around 350. People were allowed to make ice cream, learn about local fire departments, discover the molecular difference between water and oil, and so much more. The event was held in separate buildings due to a large turnout of participants and inclement weather. Nonetheless, the smiling faces of individuals of all ages were proof enough of the benefits and riches this event brought and brings yearly to the youth of Texarkana.

In the end, the event turned out to be successful. To learn more about events like this in Texarkana, visit gotxk.org!

Setting a Standard in Agriculture

AFIA facility of the year

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) is America’s Feed Industry representative body, ensuring that current business, policy, and other related items are suitable for the industry as well as those people in and around it. They represent company types from feed production to equipment manufacturing, as established in 1985. The goal of this foundation is to provide “…contribution to food and feed safety, nutrition and the environment, and it plays a critical role in the production of healthy, wholesome meat, milk, fish and eggs.” It’s for this reason that the organization recognizes a facility of the year annually.

AFIA and Feedstuffs Feed Facility of the Year (FFY) program picks a U.S. facility to stand as a model for all other facilities. The chosen facility has gone above and beyond in the area of health, safety, and more. Other companies are encouraged to compare themselves and shoot for their excellence. In opposition to previous year, 2017 brought an opportunity for all related facilities to become a member, deeming it okay for “…non-AFIA members…” to participate “…in the bench-marking portion of the program…”

On June 10th, the program began accepting applications for 2019 nominees. You must turn in your filled out application by September 6. The application fee for members is $100 while non-members pay $250. For more information, visit AFIA.
