Ledwell Teams at Bringle Lake

Building a strong, educated community is the first stepping stone to creating a safe, supportive environment for future generations. It takes a lot of effort and encouragement sometimes for individuals to flourish, and that’s what Texarkana’s Dragon Boat Festival is all about. This year, Wadley Regional Medical Center is presenting this event, benefiting HandsOn Texarkana, an organization that offers volunteer opportunities and group education across multiple topics. Their goal is to inspire the community and increase local contributions to those areas in need. To learn more about their mission, visit their site.

If you’re looking for a fun way to contribute to their cause, then look no further! This year’s Dragon Boat Festival will be held at Bringle Lake Park on May 18, starting at 9 am and ending around 4 pm. All you need is 20 participants. There will be food, music, and fun for the whole family! Bring a lawn chair, kick back, and root for your favorite team alongside your cohorts.

Ledwell Employees will be competing on two different teams – The Boggy Creek Monsters and The Bootleggers, both named after classic films produced by L. W. Ledwell. Last year, our teams did an outstanding job, winning in two different categories. Our main goal is to have fun, and support those around us with family fun and friendly competition.

To find out more about the race, visit Texarkana Dragon Boat Festival website. Be sure to post your favorite selfies and other photos of the event and of your team getting ready for the big day!

Keep it moving

Who doesn’t love when a work day goes smoothly? We do! Fortunately, there are easy ways to make sure that happens, no matter what piece of equipment your using. One consistency across the board, no matter the task at hand, is the need for proper lubrication. Greasing important components can lower the risk of your day being interrupted by machinery malfunctions.

Without greasing, your equipment cannot move properly. Gears will grind, landing gear will stiffen, and so much more. This could end up costing you or your employer a lot of time, money, and grief. The lifespan of your unit could be dwindled down from years to months. Each piece of equipment is different. That’s why it is so important to read your manual for lubrication points, tips and tricks. If you’re not sure, you can always give us a call or check our resources section.

To tackle this preemptively, Ledwell has a wide range of preventative maintenance articles, social media posts, and printed literature to help you understand your equipment and maintain it the right way. Please be sure to always familiarize yourself with any manuals or other literature tied to your equipment.

Powder Coating the World

Back in 2017, Ledwell renovated one of their manufacturing shops and converted the workroom into a Powder Coating Shop. This shop has three areas for each step in the
powder coating process to create a heartier and cleaner finish. The three C’s of the powder coating process include cleaning, coating and curing. Powder coating begins with a three
stage wash system to clean, remove rust and rinse each part thoroughly. Once the pieces are completely cleaned and dry, the piece is moved to one of three dry spray booths to
receive color. There is a bay for white, black, and any other color. This arrangement allows for collection of the white and black power to recycle and reduce waste.

Each part is grounded negative while the powder is expelled from the gun positive, creating a reaction for the powder to stick to all sides of the part. The final step of powder coating is baking the part for 20 to 50 minutes in a large oven. This will melt and cure the powder coating to the pieces and form a hard, uniform finish. Once the parts and pieces come out of the oven and cool enough to handle, they are ready to go – which is a major benefit of this entire process.

One of the advantages powder coating possesses over liquid paint is an added elastic finish that is less prone to bruises, cuts or scratches. Additionally, you will receive a quick turnaround from start to finish on powder coated parts due to a faster curing cycle and less clean-up.
